I conducted this research to regain hope and to find a sense of place and purpose, regardless of where I ended up. I was also motivated by a question I frequently heard from friends, pastors, and others: “What can we do? What do you want us to do?” I hoped this study would provide some answers. The findings highlighted areas where greater inclusivity is needed. When only White faces are seen behind the pulpit, it can be discouraging for those who strongly identify with their ethnic and cultural roots. This led me to question whether the church is truly doing everything it can to support and develop leaders like myself. Perhaps it is, or perhaps it isn’t. In any case, I hoped this research would encourage an honest and necessary conversation.
Why this research topic?
Study Findings
In 2019, I was invited to lead a session at a national conference that serves thousands of ministry leaders worldwide. I chose to share my research.
MFI’s central focus is building healthy, strong, and influential leaders who will impact their communities. Healthy leaders build healthy churches and should set an example for the world.
The recording of my session was posted on their Leaders Podcast.
